Get Motivated

Try the following tips to stay motivated to exercise using the Nintendo Wii Fit.

  1. Set a goal. You will have the option to set a short term weight loss goal based on your current BMI. Initially, try for a short goal, something easily attainable in two weeks, such as 1lb. Setting a weight loss goal can help motivate you to keep up your exercise routine.
  2. Read Wii's fitness tips. Everyday you check in with your Wii Fit, you will be asked if you want to read a fitness tip. You might be tempted to skip this or feel you know the information. However, give it a try. You might be surprised what you learn and can get important tips on slimming down faster.
  3. Unlock more fitness games. The more you exercise with the Wii Fit the more fitness games you will unlock. The greater variety of fitness activities you have at your disposal the better chance you will stick to a daily workout.
  4. Change your trainer. You have the option to choose a female or male trainer for the yoga and strength training exercises. If you have been using one switch it up! Try out a different trainer for a new experience. Looking forward to a new experience can keep you motivated to lose weight!
  5. Have fun! Don't push yourself too hard. Take a break from the aerobic exercises for some fun balance games or run in place while watching your favorite show. Better yet, get your friend to play with you!

Maximize Weight Loss

The Nintendo Wii Fit offers many ways to get you in shape and lose some pounds! If you have unlocked all the games and want a more challenging work out, try the following suggestions.

  1. Use the work out combos. Many of the yoga exercises offer suggestions for strength training exercises, which can work with one another to focus on a particular area. For example, you might try combining the tree pose with a forward lunge for maximum toning of your legs and thighs. As you advance the combination workouts will become more complex leading to more effective toning.
  2. Amp up your workout. Amp up your cardio workout and lose more pounds by using the maximum length possible on your aerobic fitness games. Instead of your regular one minute hula hoop routine, try for three minutes. Try to lengthen your aerobic workouts every couple of weeks.
  3. Weight it out. Your trainer may suggest strength training exercises that could utilize extra weights. Start out holding bottles of water and slowly move to light dumbbells. Just a little extra weight will help slim you down.
  4. Challenge your trainer. When you perform perfectly on a strength training exercise, such as the ab exercise the jack knife, you will unlock a trainer challenge game. In this game, you will have the chance to challenge your trainer. Find out who can hang in the longest. Oh yeah, the extra weight loss from the additional exercise is an added bonus to kicking your trainer's rear end!
  5. Exercise everyday. Initially, you may work out on the Nintendo Wii Fit three times per week. But as you progress and want to improve your weight loss, set a goal to work out five days per week for thirty minutes each session.

Improve Your Wii Fit Weight Loss

The Nintendo Wii Fit is a great way to lose weight. Once you are familiar with the program there are many ways you can increase the difficulty of each fitness game to maximize toning and weight loss. Try to work up to a 40 min free run with 10 min hula hoop intervals. Add some strength training too 3 times a week. Drink plenty of unsweetened green tea. Try barley tea to keep hunger cravings at bay.

After a few years of disappointing gym memberships and food plans, I bought a Wii and Wiit Fit. I started using it Nov. 2, 2008 in hopes of avoiding another 5-7 lb. permanent gain over the holidays. On the first night, it told me I was obese, not merely overweight. That really annoyed me--no way!! Since then I missed maybe six or seven days of using it. Currently I've gone 19 weeks without missing. I went from obese to overweight to normal.

By yesterday, on May 2, 2009 I had gone from 233 pounds to 176 pounds, not quite 60 in six months. My doctor is amazed. He also took me off blood pressure meds, since my BP is now 90/63 and resting heart rate is 45. My pants size went from 40 to 33, soon to be 32. I gave away most of my clothes and got a whole new wardrobe.

The only other changes I made were not eating lunch at fast food joints and replacing fried foods with fresh. The Wii Fit has been a lifesaver for me.

Just had my Wii fit for 2 weeks, but have lost an inch in waist and inch in stomach, plus almost 7 lbs. Sure alot of that was water. No change in diet, just being active with my Wii.

I just bought a Wii fit yesterday and tried it out last night and it makes exercise much more enjoyable. The positive feedback from your trainer makes it bearable, at school our P.E teacher did nothing but yelled at us to run. I'm very encouraged by your comments and cannot wait to get started!
